We live in a world dominated by apps and easy access. We use technology to find our way around, order food, shop, entertain ourselves, organize schedules, etc. It makes our lives easier and so much more convenient. Travel is no exception. Technology can help make planning and executing your student trip simple and fun! Here are our picks for the best tech for your student trip.

QR Codes

We see them everywhere – those funny black squiggles packaged neatly in a square.  They show up on menus, airline tickets, retail stores, business cards, even on our lottery scratchers!

QR Code

But these “quick response” codes can also be a great tool for your student trip.  Download a free QR code generator program and save yourself a paper trail.  Use QR codes for important parent information, relevant lesson plans, or safety info.

While traveling, use QR codes to check menus for allergy info, wait times at parks, or tickets.

Remind and GroupMe Apps

Remind lets you communicate faster with real-time messaging for the group. You can schedule reminders or provide updates to the itinerary as needed.

Groupme is an app that works on every device and functions like a private chat room for your group. It’s free group messaging for quick updates and alerts – perfect for traveling student groups.

Great Travel Apps for Student Groups

Wi-Fi Finder

Let’s be honest.  THE most important technology on your trip is Wi-Fi.  Without Wi-Fi, there’s no Tik-Tok, no Insta posts, and no Snaps.  And really, what’s the point if you can’t post a pic of yourself with an awesome caption?!

Wi-Fi Finder apps help you find public places that offer Wi-Fi hotspots near you along with the credentials to access them.  You also get information like security, channel, brand, signal strength, and more.

Note:  For safety and security, we do not recommend that students make purchases or share personal information on public Wi-Fi while traveling.

Group Travel Videos™

Group Travel Videos™ is one of our favorite student travel tech resources. They have an app that allows you to upload and share photos while you travel! These photos will be used to create a masterpiece of memories as a hard copy digital video AND a streaming digital version that can be stored on whatever media you choose. You can even provide your own performance music or live video clips to be added at no charge!

ways to save when you plan a class trip

Group Travel Videos™ has also added a geo-mapping and messaging feature to their app as well. It allows the teacher to view where the class is while on tour and can message a single traveler or the entire group. It’s really an outstanding communication tool for travelers and a huge reassurance for nervous parents.

Google Translate

Google Translate is helpful if you’ll be traveling internationally.  It can translate dozens of languages via voice or text.  It even allows you to point your smartphone at a foreign sign or menu and get a live translation.

Google Assistant also has an interpreter mode to help translate a conversation in real-time – very cool for students who may not be fluent in the language!

Mastercard ATM Hunter and Apple Pay

Here’s an app we can all use while traveling.  ATM Hunter is a super simple way to find the nearest ATM or PayPass locations.  While cashless exchanges are on the rise, there are many destinations that still require currency.

If you are one of the gazillions who rely on Apple Pay for your transactions, click here for the symbols you should look for while traveling internationally.

Online Payments and Registration

Planning a student trip is so much easier if you partner with a company that offers online registration and payments.

Online platforms literally do the heavy lifting of planning a student trip for you!

You’ll no longer worry about gathering permission slips and important documents, finding bus and rooming lists, setting payment schedules, or collecting payments -it’s all online for easy access!

Talk about a game-changer!!
