About the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival

The Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival is Europe’s premier festival event for choirs, bands, and orchestras. Ensembles from around the world come together to perform, connect, and create intercultural exchanges.

Competitive, Non-Competitive, and SCL Academy

Ensembles at the festival can choose between a competitive performance or a non-competitive celebration. In addition, participants can opt into the SCL Academy for workshops that encourage cultural interactions while fine-tuning skills.

All competitions and Academy classes are adjudicated /taught by top international professionals at the Vienna University of Music.

Students will also enjoy interactive workshops and educational lectures, additional concerts with local audiences, and pre-and post-concert tours of the area.

Application Requirements and Deadlines

Symphonic bands, choirs, orchestras, Summa ensembles, or music/dance ensembles of all sizes may apply. Applications must include the required materials (below) and registration fee payment.

Apply by February 15th Deadline of Festival Year

  • Complete application form and music repertoire
  • MP3 files or links to live or studio recordings with a minimum of 3 works (not older than 4 years)
  • Short biography (in English) of the performing group and conductor (max. 1 page/word file)
  • High-res color photos of performing group and conductor (Tiff, Bitmap, or Jpeg)

Groups will be notified of acceptance within 2 weeks (after receipt of all required materials.)

Apply by the Final April 15th Deadline of the Festival Year 

In addition to the regular application process, groups must include

  • One original conductor score of each competition work and one score of each workshop piece (Note: scores of the compulsory pieces are already available and do not have to be sent)
  • Data sheet for individual participants
  • Stage plan indicating locations for all instruments and group members
