A Texas Band Director Through and Through

Steven spent his entire career in Lindale, a tight‑knit district east of Dallas where the band program grew to more than 800 students across grades 6–12. Over the years he served as assistant, head junior high director, and ultimately Director of Bands for nearly three decades.

From the beginning, he knew exactly where he belonged:

“I knew I wanted to be a band director in 7th grade. My directors were incredible mentors — I wanted to do for students what they did for me.”

And at the center of his own program?
Excellence. Growth. Teamwork. Character. And a family atmosphere.

During Steven’s tenure, the Lindale Band boasted many achievements (including a few championships!) However, none made him as proud as the relationships they built by working together towards common goals and sharing their time and talents with the community. These are memories to carry for life.

Like most bands, Steven started by planning performance trips every four years. But as he saw what travel did for his students and parents, he realized that it brought immeasurable value to his program.

“Directors are teaching full time, rehearsing constantly, organizing everything, and then suddenly you’re also the travel coordinator. You’re responsible for every detail and every problem that comes up.”
