Myrtle Beach is the perfect place for outdoor fun in the sun.  Student groups find adventure around every corner – and in some hidden places, too!  Here are ten of our favorite Myrtle Beach must-dos for student groups!

1. Huntington Beach State Park and Atalaya Castle

This beautiful stretch of pristine beach and wide-open space is perfect for outdoor exploration.  Check out the loggerhead turtles and other endangered plants and animals or just relax in the warm sun and surf.

While there, visit Atalaya Castle.  Built in 1931 by Archer Huntington and his wife, the castle is a magnificent, 30-room structure designed in the Spanish or Moorish style. Wander the expansive grounds or tour the building itself.  It’s a great way to spend a day!

2. Dolphin Watching and Sightseeing Cruise

Take your student trip to the water and watch for dolphins and other sea creatures!  Fresh air, waves, and wildlife are highlights of your outing.  You may even see sea turtles or a great white shark!

3. WonderWorks and Soar + Explore Ziplining

WonderWorks is an experience (or experiment!) in fun. As soon as the building is visible, it’s clear that things are not as they seem! The upside-down facade is explained to guests as a once top-secret laboratory located in the Bermuda Triangle in which an experiment gone wrong landed it in its current destination- upended!

WonderWorks Myrtle Beach

Inside, the atmosphere at WonderWorks is charged with fun, and excitement, and more than 100 interactive displays and exhibits at your disposal. Science is at the heart of the experience, and all the activities are geared for maximum play.

Take in a 6D-XD movie or light it up in a black-lit laser tag arena. There’s so much to do in this world of edu-tainment!

Soar + Explore is an outdoor world of ropes challenge courses and over-the-water ziplines at WonderWorks.  Your group will love the high-flying fun!

4. Plantation River Tours

Relax on Myrtle’s less-crowded waterways as you cruise the moss-laden Waccamaw River past historical homes and plantations. Plantation River Tours take you on a 2 ½ hour journey into another place and time!

5. Ripley’s Aquarium

Ripley’s Aquarium is 85,000 square feet of interactive and educational sea-life fun.  Stop at the Entrance Tank for a sea life selfie and then check out Discovery Center to get up close and personal with horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, and starfish.

Jump on the glide path and watch sharks, sea turtles, fish, and more swim above and beside you.  Then pop into the Living Gallery, Ray Bay, and the world-class Ocean Wonders penguin habitat.  Students will LOVE the penguin nursery where baby penguins are cared for!

6. Barefoot Landing

This one counts as a good time both outdoors and indoors!  Barefoot Landing is a beautiful spot along the Intracoastal waterway with lots of shopping and outdoor dining and entertainment.  Sunsets here are spectacular – the ideal backdrop for selfies!

7. Brookgreen Gardens

This outdoor gem is one of America’s premier gardens.  It’s also a museum, zoo, aquarium, and historical landmark!  Stroll Brookgreen Gardens on your own or plan a private tour.

8. Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show

Take your crew to a swashbuckling show and dinner at Pirates Voyage & Dinner Show.  Cheer on your favorite pirates as they battle on the decks of full-sized pirate ships, on land, and in the lagoon.  Dine on a four-course feast of pirate favorites surrounded by mermaids, tropical birds, and more.

9. Carolina Opry

The Carolina Opry brings the best in entertainment to your student groups.  In addition to amazing shows, students can perform on stage, participate in workshops, or learn what it takes to work in the entertainment industry.

Students get treated like celebrities at Myrtle Beach’s number one provider of family-friendly shows.

10. Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Skywheel

The heart of Myrtle Beach is a nostalgic 1.2-mile oceanfront boardwalk.  It offers magnificent views of the Atlantic, sensational shopping, delectable dining, and exciting entertainment.

While you’re there, take flight on the 187-foot SkyWheel for the most magnificent views of the South Carolina skyline and sea!
