Student Travel to Orlando: What’s New at Walt Disney World® and Universal Studios Florida®

senior 12th grade trips to Disney World

Having the best and most exciting theme parks in the world, Orlando year after year reaps the award/distinction of being the number one destination for student groups from 8th grade to 12th grade traveling in the U.S.  One of the reasons why Orlando continually achieves this status is that its theme parks keep improving their offerings.

Walt Disney World® continually improves their music festivals, performance programs as well as their Youth Education Series (Y.E.S.) programs which now offer hands-on courses to student groups who want to increase their learning skills in arts and humanities, earth sciences, natural sciences and leadership/careers.  Also, Disney’s Magic Kingdom® Park has begun expansion that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland.  This will be completed in phases with most new attractions opening in 2013. Student travel to Orlando’s Walt Disney World® is educational, fun and ever-changing.

Universal Studios Florida® has recently improved its offerings via new attractions.  Recently, Universal’s Islands of Adventure® opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™.  This incredible park is a re-creation of the Harry Potter movie(s).  The park includes replicas of Hogwarts (the school) and Hogsmeade (the village). Students can order food and drinks at Three Broomsticks Restaurant and the Hog’s Head Pub and shop in various stores with wizarding themes. The main attraction is entitled “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”, a ride that augments various versions of the movie that places students squarely within Harry Potter’s experiences at Hogwarts. Student groups will also want to try the Dragon Challenge and Flight of the Hippogriff, two rollercoasters that closely follow the theme of the Harry Potter movies.  This is a must-see for student trips to Orlando!

Universal’s other theme park, Universal Studios®, recently opened a new rollercoaster called Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit®.  This heart pounding 65 mph rollercoaster soars up to 17 stories, dives into loops, screams through buildings and twists and turns while riders experience an extreme adrenaline rush.  Students also get to choose their own soundtrack including pop, disco, rap, hip hop, classic rock, heavy metal, country, or electronic music before boarding. With digital cameras installed on board student groups will get to see themselves on video as they ride the rollercoaster. When booking your student tour to Orlando, be sure to include Universal Studios® on your itinerary.

Educational Science Trips to Orlando and Tampa for Students

Student groups have a wealth of life, earth and space scientific resources awaiting them in Orlando and Tampa on Kaleidoscope Adventures’ Central Florida Science Tour.  On this trip, its first-class science attractions, museums and hands-on learning programs will meet and exceed your classroom curriculum. Couple this with a Disney Youth Education Series, and you have one of the best science tours in the U.S.

In Orlando, your student group can glide through the wetlands on a beautiful Florida wildlife tour on the famous Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. These airboat tours start with a leisurely idle down a natural canal viewing exotic birds, turtles and Florida alligators in their own natural environment. Then your group will fly like the wind into the swamps experiencing the awesome feel of an airboat ride traveling up to 45 miles per hour.

At Forever Florida, your group will experience a 4,700 acre eco-ranch and wildlife conservation area that encompasses nine distinct ecosystems, beautifully preserved just as nature intended.  Your student group will experience natural streams, forests, pastures, wetlands and learn about the wide array of Forever Florida’s wildlife including alligators, black bears, white-tail deer and the endangered Florida Panther.

Just a short 45 minute trip east of Orlando, your student group will experience the science of astronomy.  Kennedy Space Center has told the story for over 40 years of how the United States built a space program that launched men to the moon, orbited satellites that have improved our lives, and sent probes into distant space to the solve the mysteries of the cosmos.  Being the primary home for the Atlantis, Columbia, Discovery, and Endeavour space shuttles, Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station are the country’s center of space operations. Your group will be able to see exhibits on space travel, walk through a space shuttle, view a movie at the IMAX Theater, see the Astronaut Memorial, and visit the rocket park.

At the Walt Disney World® Resort, your group will experience the Disney Youth Education Series science program.  Your students will learn about G-force motion and test the laws of physics, learn and understand the science and physics behind some of Disney’s attractions, and learn about the oceans, wildlife and animal behavior.  Your group can also research the world of animals in a real, working science laboratory as well as in the field; test their skills in the art of animation, and so much more!  Your group will remember and build upon these hands-on adventures for years to come.

At the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, they believe the ocean is amazing, and so will you!  The Florida Aquarium’s exhibits are set up to show the journey of a drop of water from a Florida fresh-water spring to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There are many exhibits including large simulated wetlands, a simulated beach, and a coral reef community housed in a 500,000 gallon tank.

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, voted the best zoo in the U.S. by Parents Magazine, features over 2,000 animals, interactive exhibits, rides and shows.   The zoo also has a Zoo School that is a 17,400 square foot hands-on learning facility that houses a Lecture Hall, 13 classrooms and a Resource Center.  Zoo School programs are designed to be fun, innovative, imaginative and investigative for all ages.  Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is dedicated to serving as an educational resource to your group.

Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry, affectionately known as MOSI, is the largest science center in the south at over 300,000 square feet. In addition to being home to Florida’s only IMAX Dome Theatre, MOSI also boasts Kids in Charge!, the newest and largest children’s science center in the United States.  A group trip to MOSI makes science come to life by providing hands-on learning experiences that are an extension of your classroom.  Educational programs, IMAX films, interactive exhibits and the new Saunders Planetarium support your curriculum and enhance science knowledge while stimulating students’ interest in science and technology.

Planning Student Performance Trips: It’s the Little Things That Make a Big Difference!

Click for more information on Performance and Festival TripsThere’s a saying that goes, “It’s the little things that make a BIG difference.” Although it’s a cliché, it is often very true, especially when planning student performance trips. The team at Kaleidoscope Adventures goes the extra mile when planning your trip. Our step-by-step process is detailed, thorough and helps you decide what destination to take your performance ensemble to, what festival, if any, you would like to participate in, what fun activities you would like to include on your tour and if you want your group to perform in public.

First, the simple process starts with a conversation. Together, we will discuss approximate dates, destination possibilities, performance goals and venues, any festivals, fun activities, etc. Our staff is well versed in student performance travel. Each year, we send hundreds of bands, choirs, dance troupes and more to the top performance destinations throughout North America. For example, Orlando has some of the finest music performance festivals, workshops and public performance venues in the U.S. including Disney Performing Arts OnStage, Festival Disney, Disney Honors, Universal Stars, Sea World’s SoundWaves and OrlandoFest. Washington DC provides a wonderful historical backdrop for performing groups including the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall and more. New York City provides student performance ensembles with many options including Broadway Workshops, the Statue of Liberty, as well as other excellent performance venues. With over 44 destinations in North America, Kaleidoscope Adventures offers the best performance venues, festivals, workshops and more to student performance ensembles.

Second, upon review of our conversation, we build a program based on your budgetary needs, curriculum, performance goals and more. Third, we present a proposal to you outlining the itinerary and budget. From this point on, we can fine-tune your itinerary giving you a trip that satisfies all of your needs. Once accepted, we will arrive at a payment schedule that is acceptable to you. At this time, we request that you get your team together to plan fundraising, how many chaperones you will need, who will dispense travel information and more. This will greatly help you in organizing everything before the trip.

Once the day of departure arrives, your performance group will be picked up by pre-arranged transportation at your school or at the final destination airport. Your group will be greeted by a personal tour director upon arrival at your destination. The tour director will be with you every step of the way, taking care of every detail of your trip, including all performance details.

Rick Harris, director of the Girls Choir of South Florida, states, “From the person I spoke with when I first called your office through the end of our tour, everyone was amazing. The trip couldn’t have been better – we wouldn’t have changed a thing! We’re already working on next year’s trip with Kaleidoscope Adventures.”

Overall, we are experts at planning every detail of student performance trips. Our goal is to have you give your students a fun, hands-on learning experience that they’ll remember for years to come. You’ll have the rewarding feeling of knowing that you are the teacher who is making a difference in your students’ lives. As an educator, planning your student performance trip is easy with the help of your Kaleidoscope Adventures team. It really is the little things that make a BIG difference!
